The start of a new month is a great time to ask yourself a few questions and assess how things are going.
Of course, there are the OBVIOUS questions, like:
Are my feet sandal-ready? (mine are in a hobbit state)
Is my iced-tea pitcher large enough? (never)
Do I have to buy a new swimsuit? Or will my shredded swim costume with the knee-length skirt from 5 years ago still work? (swimsuit shopping=nightmare)
How can I wear sleeveless tops without actually showing my upper arms? (um....)
Actually, I'm talking about different kinds of questions to ask yourself. The kind that make you think just a little bit.
Today I'd like you to think about the things that truly matter to you and ask yourself if you are accomplishing, initiating, spending time on, or otherwise, well.... doing them. I'm not just talking about pinning "quotes about what matters to you" on Pinterest, but really and truly focusing on making those things happen.
Here are some general ideas to get you started thinking...and you can get more specific as we work through it:
Family
Spiritual growth
Personal hobby
Giving to others
Marriage
Health
Organizing
I find that it's pretty easy for me to make a list of the things that matter, but quite another to list the ways I make those things a priority. Often the busyness of life crowds out my best intentions and leaves me with a lot of ideas with no follow-through. Every now and then I need to stop down and make a specific decision to change this pattern.
To keep this simple today, choose ONE thing that matters to you - it doesn't have to be deep or be something that will impress anyone.
Today's Small Thing is to fill in the blanks:
______________ matters to me.
In June, I will focus on it by ____________________________.
Need some Examples?
My huband matters to me. In June, I will focus on him by guarding my tongue from critical words.
My health matters to me. In June, I will focus on it by eliminating sugar.
My home matters to me. In June, I will focus on it by doing each Small Thing. (clever, huh?)
My son's interest in airplanes matters to me. In June, we will visit the aviation museum in Dallas.
Living generously matters to me. In June, I will donate household items to the local shelter.
This little exercise does two things: it identifies a goal, and it sets a time limit for accomplishing it. I'd love for June to be a month that ends with a feeling of satisfaction. I want us to be able to say "I did something that truly matters to me." So let's get a simple game plan into action!
Remember:
A goal without a plan is just wishful thinking.
Points: 50 for filling in the blanks. An additional 50 for leaving a comment with your completed sentences. 100 points possible today....so easy.
