As the countdown to Christmas gets under 15 days now, there is part of me that feels like I'm in a mighty rushing river, heading for an enormous waterfall. Powerless to stop the current of the clock, I'm trying to keep my head above water long enough to make it to the shore of wrapped presents and stamped Christmas cards. Will someone please throw me a lifeline of gingersnaps so I can survive?
But rather than flailing about with no direction, I've decided pull myself together, get to the shore and....dance.
Now, I'm not a very good dancer: My dance style is along the lines of Elaine Benes on Seinfeld. I've been told by my son never to dance in public again. But while I can only dream of moving effortlessly along with the grace of Ginger Rogers, I can still use the waltz's 3 step count to make my Christmas preparations go more smoothly.
Today's Small Thing is to do 3 Christmas tasks. 1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3...1, 2, 3.
These will be 3 things that, by doing them today, you WON'T have to do the night before Christmas because you procrastinated. Doing them today will make you feel light as a feather.
So let's make a list of small, but important steps we could take today:
- Wrap 3 presents
- Get stamps for cards
- Mail a gift
- Water the tree
- Bake cookies
- Address envelopes
- Work on holiday menu
- Shop for presents
- Finish putting out decorations (or in my case, START)
- Listen to Christmas music
- Make sure everyone has something to wear to recitals/parties/dinner/church
- Make gift tags
What else could be added to this list? Leave suggestions in the comments (or link to your blog) so we can pick 3 easy ones and waltz across the finish line with style!
And HEY!
Why not do some actual dancing today! You can grab a partner and swing around, or you can just take a spin around the room on your own! Such fun! A little waltzing will put a spring in your step and make your tasks seem fun!
