I sat down to write a cute post about my holiday table for today's blog, and just couldn't do it. Not after watching the news and realizing how many people are in dire situations after Sandy. In the past couple of days I've felt so grateful for the things we normally take for granted - water, food, electricity, gas - when thousands of people are without those basics right now.
Today's Small Thing is to do a little something good for people in need.
At the very least, let's say a prayer for those who need food and shelter, that they would experience provision and peace. Elderly people and small children are especially vulnerable and need God's hand to carry them through this. The list of needs is endless, and not least of which is physical safety for police officers, firefighters and relief workers...and everyone living in the disaster areas.
Share: One of our longtime Company Girls, Zoanna, shared how she is helping by cooking up some extra food for friends. What makes this act extra special is that she lives in an area affected by the storm....and though she and her family have power, many around her are not so fortunate. What a great example of reaching out to others.
And, if you would like to donate money to the recovery effort....
Here are links to the Red Cross and Salvation Army, two organizations that are always on the front lines in disaster relief. You can donate online...any litle bit will go a long way.
One ministry I really like is Life Today with James Robison. It is one that I am confident donating to....and they are accepting donations for Hurricane Sandy. Another is Samaritan's Purse, which does so much around the world to help people. Maybe you have a favorite organization to give to? Feel free to share links in the comments below.
Pray, Share, Give.
If each of us would do just a little, imagine what a difference we could make!
And if you'd like to share a cup of coffee (a virtual one) you can do that here at Company Girl Coffee, the weekly meme that is all about YOU. Simply link your blog post URL below to invite people to your blog...and then try and visit as many as you can to reciprocate. Easy and fun!
