Has it really been a month already?? July literally flew by, and the break from posting Small Things came at just the right time for me. I needed the extra time to focus on other things, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the world managed to keep turning - even without me online. Imagine that!
But with school starting again, this time of year always feels a little exciting......maybe the thought of new pencils and folders and backpacks makes me want to get organized and start fresh.
You know, I would send you a bouquet of sharpened pencils if I knew where you lived. (Quote from Kathleen Kelly, "You've Got Mail."
If you are new to Home Sanctuary, I want to give you a warm welcome! I hope you've had a chance to look around and check out the archives while I've been on my break. It doesn't take long to realize that this is not your typical "get organized" blog that will beat you into regimented submission. To be honest, I'm naturally pathetic in my attempts to get organized, and after years of struggle, I've come to accept a certain level of mess while choosing to move forward into the kind of life I want for my family. Is that where you are, too?
Great! I knew we'd be good friends. :)
Listen, I'm living proof that God can take a tired mom with a simple dream and make something good happen at home. I'll be first to tell you that I have not arrived and I'm still working on it, but "sanctuary" HAS happened along the way. And I totally believe that if it can happen for me, it can happen for you.
I've truly found that there is strength and encouragement in friendship - and that's why I'm so grateful for the Company Girls. Back when my little girls coined that phrase, I had no idea how meaningful it would become, or how many like-minded women I would find online! I'm thrilled that you're here - and whether you read this blog via email, in a reader, or in the occasional visit here - there is a connection of real women with real passion for their families.
And.........yeah. The point where the passion ends and confusion begins is exactly where Home Sanctuary steps in. You might not believe that doing our quick tasks together each day will make much of a difference, but I assure you - it will. Small Things are tiny little choices that stab inertia in the back and get you moving in the right direction. Along the way, your mindset will be challenged, and maybe even tickled, into thinking of your home as your sanctuary.....and once that happens, there is a snowball effect that grows and grows. It's awesome!
So let's take our first stab at inertia by doing a Small Thing that will clear some virtual clutter. Today's Small Thing is to take 10 minutes to clean up your email folders. Go to your email account and simply set up some new folders (categories): family members, work, church, funny forwards, etc. and move some of the emails from your Inbox to your folders. Let the Delete key be your friend today and delete as much as you can!
POINTS: 40 for sorting/purging emails - 10 minutes is all you need to do!
Here's a Tally Sheet to print off and pencil in your points this month: Download Tally1008 We will discuss prizes tomorrow.
