My husband, Tom, is a pretty reserved man. He doesn't like to draw attention to himself and he has an aversion to anything that resembles showmanship. He'll gladly let others have the limelight, even though he is an excellent leader and good with people. He never sits in the front row, he refuses to park close to store entrances (because of little old ladies who might need the space), and he doesn't particularly like to be featured on my blog. He simply prefers to go quietly about his business.
But every now and then, he does something unexpected. Take Saturday night for example. There was a photo booth at a wedding reception we attended, and all the guests were instructed to step in and have photos made for a scrapbook for the bride and groom. So we stood in line with the other couples and groups of friends, waiting for our turn. Suddenly, as we got close to the front of the line, that man of mine whispered to me, "we should black out our teeth."
Genius!! He scooped up some chocolate frosting and we ducked into the booth to make our special memento for the happy couple.
I just crack up every time I look at the copy of the photos we were given to take home. Oh, Lordy! We look horrible! The bride and groom will wonder if two idiots crashed their party.
Today's Small Thing is to do something unexpected. You don't have to make a complete fool of yourself, like we did, but simply do something a little out of the ordinary. You could drink your morning coffee on the porch, rather than at the table. Or you could take in a movie in the middle of the day, or say "yes" to your children's pleas to go swimming. You could get a snow cone or a fancy dessert, or wear dangley earrings for no reason whatsoever.
My husband's unexpected silliness caught me off guard and completely bowled me over. It's put a little sparkle in my heart and inspired me to try and think of something I could do on my own. Today, just choose something to do that is not your "norm" - and have a little fun on a Monday.
POINTS: 50 for having some unexpected fun/adventure/moments today
What will you do??
