Last night I was sitting at the Mall Starbucks, waiting for my son's hockey practice to end, and watching the fashionistas stroll past. I felt hopelessly unfashionable in my yoga pants and sketchers: I was going for a careless "I just came from the gym" look but I don't think I fooled anyone. Maybe it's the dress coat I carelessly threw over the ensemble?
So who am I to judge, but what's up with all the leggings I'm seeing these days? Black, brown, purple, even fishnet stocking-style....my mind is weary from trying to figure why one of the most unflattering styles of the 80's would possibly make a comeback!
Must be the new fab shoes that make them appealing:
I see another 80's trend I thought had died an appropriate death: the shoulder pads.
I remember feeling proud to look like a linebacker in my padded, oversized tops and stirrup pants. Those were some good times. Thank God we had huge earrings to balance out the look!
I think I had these exact earrings.
With the changing of the seasons comes a a natural opportunity to weed out our closets. Now, I think ya'll know by now that I wear my Old Navy T's from one season to the next and the next and the next. But it might be time to take the sleeveless tops and shorts and move them to the back of the closet to make room for the sweaters and jeans. The cool evenings make me want to dig out the woolens and scarves.
I know they're in there somewhere, behind the denim vest and broom skirt I couldn't get enough of in the 90's.
Today's Small Thing is to do a QUICK closet weeding: bag up the obvious things that don't fit your lifestyle OR your thighs to give away. Move the summer stuff to the back and pull the fall stuff forward. You'll be ready to accessorize with these in no time:
The fingerless gloves. Unleash your inner Madonna.
Points: 50 for a 10-15 minute weeding/straightening of your closet.
