Let me just say right off the bat that we aren't going to have to work for our points today.
Well, for some of you it might seem like "work" because you aren't used to giving yourself a break. It's just nose to the grindstone, shoulder to the wheel, slaving in the salt mines. Plus there's the constant worry. Who knows what might happen if you weren't there to worry about it?
It's a burden, I know.
So today's Small Thing is to celebrate the day.
What's there to celebrate about today, you say?
Hey, look around! You are breathing, you are moving, you are part of a company of girls that get together to have fun and get some things done! You are someone's daughter, mother, sister, friend........you are not alone. Today is a perfect day to celebrate what is good in life.
Yeah, we've each got stuff that isn't so great. The economy is in the toilet. Money might be tight. Family relationships are tense. Maybe you are struggling with an addiction, or guilt, or just plain old overload. You're tired of hearing Alvin and the Chipmunks. I hear ya.
But just for a few moments, set all that down and close your eyes. Take a deep breath and inhale the wonder of being right where God wants you. You may not understand why He would let such circumstances happen to you, but nonetheless, HE IS WITH YOU. Picture yourself on the other side of your circumstance: free, victorious and looking around for another fight. Yeah, that's you, girl. That's gonna be you. Start enjoying it now.
You can celebrate the day any way that you'd like. Your employer might not want you to celebrate by calling in sick, but maybe you could treat yourself to a twinkie from the vending machine, or a really great cup of coffee during your break. You could go outside for a walk or read a magazine or put on a smashing shade of lipstick. You could give a $20 in the Salvation Army bucket.
Celebrating the day means that, in spite of everything going on, there is something to find joy in. Like Flash, out there bucking in the pasture for no reason, it just feels good.
