Did I mention that we went camping last weekend?
Tom and I weren't able to leave until Saturday morning, and after a 5 hour trip we finally joined our kids, Tom's parents and sister's family. We've never done any type of trip with them, and even though we live close, schedules prevent us from getting to spend a lot of time together.
The highlight of the short weekend was an impromptu baptism. In the lake. In October.
None of our kids had been baptized before, and we had always thought it would be really special if they could do it together. As parents, we'd wanted to wait until they were really old enough to understand the significance of making a public confession of their faith and obedience to Christ. But the "right" moment never really came.
Suddenly, Meghan said, "why not this weekend?" Lauren, Meghan and Grayson discussed it with each other and with us. Tom's dad is a minister and agreed to perform the baptism.
So after lunch on Sunday, we drove to the deserted swimming beach at DeGray Lake and said a prayer of blessing and dedication over these three beautiful young people. I only wish my parents could have been there...we had no idea what would transpire when we left town on Saturday!
I can't begin to express how blessed I felt to see each one make a statement of faith and take part in this simple, yet profound ceremony. The joy of seeing your children take hold of their own faith and walk in it, is more than I can describe. The pictures are still in the camera and I will post them soon.
It's not often that something this grand happens around here, so thank you for the chance to share my joy. It was a camping trip of a lifetime!
