The TLC network has a brilliant show that almost makes me want to subscribe to cable just so I can watch it. "What Not To Wear" is the show which features fashion intervention in the lives of people who have no clue about what they should and shouldn't wear. I gobble it up every time I'm in a hotel or at a friend's house with access to all the programming we don't get in our frugal existence. Lordy, it's good stuff.
Next Saturday, I'll be speaking at our church's women's luncheon (and fashion show), where our theme is "What Not to Wear." I hope I learn the secret of Skinny Jeans on a Middle Aged Body at the style show (or as Texans say, "stah'l show.") But I'm also looking forward to sharing out of Isaiah 61:3.
Did you know that Isaiah was a fashionista? He had a lot to say about clothing - spiritual clothing. Verse 3 of chapter 61 tells us what not to wear....and what TO wear instead. Why, Isaiah coulda had a cable show!
....to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
Girls, I see clothing, accessories and body cream in that scripture.....and it is positively speaking to my soul! You see, the author of this passage knew that a spiritual wardrobe change would work wonders.
Could you use a crown of beauty for your ashes right about now? How about rubbing some sweetly scented oil of gladness into your grieving heart? Would you like to trade your rags of despair for a garment of praise?
If you're saying "YES!" to all of the above, I want to invite you to join me on Saturday, January 23 at Midlothian Bible Church in Midlothian, Texas. Email me for information and directions. The lunch and style show is 10.00, the speaker is free. :) Reservations must be made by Sunday, the 17th.
Come on and see me - I'd love to meet you!!!
